  • Gram positive bacilli irregular club shaped (aerobic)

Clinical Significance

This organism is part of commensal skin flora.

Its association with erythrasma is controversial.

It has been associated with bacteremia, endocarditis, abscesses, and catheter/medical device related infections.

 

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

This organism often exhibits resistance to clindamycin, tetracyclines, quinolones, and macrolides.

Penicillin
or
Vancomycin
