Gram Stain

• Gram positive irregular bacilli (aerobic)

Clinical Significance

These organisms are ubiquitous in the environment but may become opportunistic pathogens in immunocompromised patients, especially if medical device related.

Actinomadura spp have been associated with CAPD peritonitis. These organisms also cause actinomycotic mycetomas.

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

Susceptibility testing is not standardized.  

Most isolates should be susceptible to linezolid.
