  • F. hominis
  • F. ignava
  • F. languida
  • F. sourekii

Gram Stain

  • Gram positive cocci in pairs and chains (aerobic)

Clinical Significance

These organisms are found in the female genital tract and have been associated with septicemia (including postpartum septicemia) and rarely endocarditis.

They have been recovered from urine and abscess specimens.

 

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

These organisms have variable susceptibility to penicillin, and may have elevated MICs to cephalosporins (including 3rd/4th generation).

Imipenem has better activity than meropenem (elevated MICs).

Susceptibility to clindamycin, macrolides, tetracyclines, and TMP/SMX is variable.
