Gram Stain

  • Gram positive bacilli irregular club shaped (aerobic)

Clinical Significance

This organism is part of commensal skin flora.

It has been implicated in nosocomial infections (especially catheter/medical device related infections), bacteremia, endocarditis, pneumonia, osteomyelitis, meningitis, and necrotizing fasciitis.

 

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

This organism often exhibits resistance to clindamycin, tetracyclines, quinolones, and macrolides.

 

Empiric Therapy
Penicillin
