Clinical Significance

These organisms are found in a variety of environmental sources (soil/water). 

Although of low pathogenicity, they have been implicated in cases of bacteremia, endocarditis, ventriculitis, prosthetic joint infections, pancreatitis, urinary tract infections, necrotizing fasciitis, and recurrent cellulitis, typically in immunocompromised patients. They have also been implicated in nosocomial infections.

 

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

These organisms are resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins, and carbapenems and have variable susceptibility to aminoglycosides, quinolones, and TMP/SMX.
