Canadian Guidelines on Sexually Transmitted Infections - Chancroid

 

- Extremely rare in Canada - no reported cases in Alberta in the last 20 years

- Only test for chancroid if syphilis and HSV negative and epidemiologic exposure (i.e. appropriate travel history or contact with a traveler).

- Also consider LGV and donovanosis (granuloma inguinale).

- Test for HIV.

 
Usual Pathogens

Haemophilus ducreyi

 

Therapy Dose Duration
Azithromycin 1g PO 1 dose
or    
Ciprofloxacin 500mg PO 1 dose
or    
Ceftriaxone 250mg IM 1 dose
or    
Erythromycin base 500mg PO tid 7 days
