All isolates of viridans group/nonhaemolytic streptococci should be identified to species level.

  • S. gallolyticus - strong association with colorectal cancer. Recommend colonoscopy.

  • S. anginosus group (S. anginosus, S. constellatus, S. intermedius) - increased tendency to form abscesses and disseminated infections. Surgery may be required. Longer therapy (minimum 4 weeks for native valve, and 6 weeks for prosthetic valve) is necessary.
